The installation follows a testing period of more then 4 months under diverse conditions. The system is expected to deliver a significant reduction in the hotel's energy consumption as well as help extend the operating life of the HVAC equipment.

Energex Inc. of Vancouver BC has released SentryWatt, an in-room energy management solution designed to eliminate the losses caused by guests who leave the HVAC and other appliances on when they leave their rooms or check out. The system is comprised of a infra red based motion sensor and a digital thermostat in a base station which reverts the room temperature into a pre-set unsold mode when the room is empty and reverts back to the guest-selected temperature when the guest returns. The system is capable of helping reduce the HVAC load by up to 40%. In room HVAC accounts to nearly 75% of the total energy consumed by the average hotel room. " with the dramatic rise in the cost of energy - in room energy management system have finally come of age, and will become a significant part of any hotel strategy to reduce it electrical consumption" says Rami Y. NATIONAL REPORT - Hoteliers are taking advantage of several new technologies to control energy costs and integrate lighting and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) while saving money. Several hotel companies such as Hilton, Hyatt and Westin, are also partnering with the Environmental Protection Agency to implement strategies to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings.
