Kelowna, B.C.
The Holiday Inn Express Kelowna has recently installed Energex guestroom solutions in all of its 120 rooms. The project was partially funded by the Power Sense program of Fortis BC and the Energy Innovators Program of Natural Resources Canada. The system turns down HVAC levels in unoccupied rooms using advanced infrared sensors located in each guestroom which are connected directly to the HVAC units control system. Because guests are typically gone from their rooms and suites for about 50 percent of the time, the energy savings potential is dramatic. Typically between 35- 45% of the guestroom HVAC energy consumption can be saved, according to recent studies by BC Hydro in Canada and PG&E in California. The project is expected to have a payback period of 8 – 12 months, depending on the weather ahead and the upcoming occupancy rates.
The system is also capable of being expanded into the new ‘Discovery’ solution which delivers guestroom status information directly to wireless handheld devices issued to operations staff. By doing so, it will minimize disturbance to guests, streamline housekeeping work and increase security. ‘This is our fifth Holiday Inn Express installation’ said Rami Belson President of Energex Inc. “It further cements our relationship with the brand and is a definite vote of confidence in our technology; we certainly look forward to providing the industry with more cutting edge solutions like the Discovery system.”
